Maggie Campbell & Matt Raw
"In the simplest terms, bookbinding and letterpress printing are processes that present content and materials on paper as experiences that are interpreted and affected by the viewer. Both printing & binding are functional and beautiful, in that they provide a distinct structure that also uses beautiful materials and textures."
Maggie's books incorporate a variety of stitches and materials, leading to any number of results, including page paper, whether edges are deckled (torn) or cut, decorative papers, end papers, thread color, stitching style...the options are endless. All of the albums and journals are made with acid-free archival materials and each of the books are designed to be used and kept... and enjoyed! Our letterpress cards are created with a mix of photopolymer plates and metal type. Much of our card work is printed on a 1915 cast iron Golding Official No. 4 press and incorporates Maggie's original drawings.
As history majors, Maggie & Matt are uniquely suited to use antique tools and processes to make their living. Maggie grew up around her mom's printmaking work and began studying bookbinding in 1994...and never looked back! The couple are self-taught designers who are fascinated by impeccable typography, careful craftsmanship, and making a living with their hands. Maggie & Matt are originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and currently live and work in Brooklyn, New York.
