The best way to enjoy your cup of morning coffee or tea is the Melting Mountain Pottery mug. This unique form holds a generous amount of beverage while the narrow opening keeps your drink hotter, longer.
This mug is wheel-thrown with a high fire white stoneware clay, with its handle added by hand. The application of slip, or liquid clay, to create interior and exterior textures in a loose and fluid manner gives life to the form and a different character or personality to every piece. All of Melting Mountain Pottery's mugs are bisque fired and then put through a rigorous glazing process where a combination of pouring and spraying several layers of glaze creates the colors and patterns seen in the finished pots. Many ash glazes are used in this process for their tendency to run and pool on the surface of the pot, reiterating the fluidity and motion created by the slip. Finally, the mug is reduction fired with gas or wood to cone 10, or about 2300° Fahrenheit, hardening the piece enough for everyday use.
Dishwasher & microwave-safe.
Note from the Artist Regarding Glaze Colors: "The images viewed online are original examples of my work. The form or shape of pottery ordered will be exact, but color and texture may differ. My process and materials allow a sort of "controlled chaos" to occur on the surface of my pots to make each and every one unique. It is this unpredictability of the ash glazes and slip that I use that produce the beauty of each piece."
If you choose "Artist's Combination" for your glaze option, Joey Sheehan of Melting Mountain Pottery will put his creativity to work and produce a harmonious mix of colors for your pottery.
